Job Summary
The Associate Landscape Architect will work within the Design, Planning + Economics team to complete planning and design assignments from bid stage, through concept design to project completion. This role also requires leadership and participation on projects with other parts of the business. The Associate should be able to independently manage all aspects of multiple complex projects simultaneously, including managing client expectations, maintaining project programs and budgets, leading project teams, and driving design excellence.
The Associate, Landscape Architect will be a thought leader, forming part of the management team to lead, develop and produce quality outcomes. The Associate Landscape Architect will be a technical leader with ability to deliver projects, and will manage and mentor a team of professionals.
The Associate, Landscape Architect will play an essential role in providing project management and financial control for allocated projects. This role includes client liaison and management and business development – providing strong technical and business leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and deliver a range of bids and projects across DP+E and supporting other business lines
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of proposals for new contracts.
- Be a positive representative of AECOM and DP+E on projects and bids
- Undertake any work in accordance with the scope of the proposal as agreed by the client and within the associated budget parameters.
- Work closely with the client and stakeholders to deliver high quality product in a timely manner.
- Attend briefings with clients to review project plans, and resolve any conflicts in design or parameters of contracted work.
- Ensure accuracy of work.
- Monitor project progress against the budget on a regular basis to track performance.
- Implement and use AECOM’s quality management system for all project work.
- Mentor, challenge and grow staff to create a high level of creativity and enthusiasm.
- Manage the delivery of projects in compliance with applicable authorities’ requirements.
- Delegate aspects of projects to team members and oversee their delivery in a timely and accurate manner with agreed quality standards.
- Report regularly on project progress and proposed projects to studio management.
- Bring a strong creative flair to AECOM’s Design, Planning + Economics studio.
- Support the urban planning, masterplanning and landscape design teams in the production of conceptual and detailed designs and associated contract drawings, presentation drawings, schedules and specifications for landscape and urban development schemes.
- Work with project team members to identify and explore appropriate planning and design solutions for landscape and public realm projects.
- Work closely with internal designers and planners, and external consultants, to support project teams in creating sustainable, commercially viable landscape designs.
- Manage the preparation of presentations, reports and drawing packages.
- Demonstrate innovation and strong technical knowledge in the approach to problem solving.
- Working autonomously as well as collaboratively.
- Demonstrating a detail oriented approach in all areas.
- Assist in the operations of the studio as required.
Key Capabilities:
- Ability to manage the delivery of all technical, project management and financial aspects of landscape and public realm projects
- Strong conceptual design skills, ability to provide spatial design solutions for a wide range of project types, and project scales – provide design leadership
- Ability to multi-task on multiple project commitments through a combination of delegation and self-delivery
- Strong graphic and visualization skills, able to conceptualize ideas in sketch and digital formats
- Global perspective, and strong knowledge and interest in contemporary design, including ability to identify and suggest international best practice case studies and benchmarks
- Desire to drive innovation in the development and communication of design ideas
- Ability to support business development and team growth
Minimum Requirements
- 10+ years relevant experience, preferably in a multi-disciplinary studio environment
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch Up software
- Proficiency in Revit and or AutoCAD platforms
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Extensive experience in the management of projects from proposal development to completion
- Strong design skills with ability to work from broad scale masterplanning to detailed landscape design
- Able to lead an effective team assisting and supporting team members
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
- Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information
- Efficient production manner
- Experience in supporting business development
- Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Landscape Architecture
- Professional accreditation license
